Rapid Identification of Select Pathogens
Biological warfare agents (BWA) are a continued threat to national security. To defend against a BWA attack it
is essential that BWAs are rapidly detected and identified so that proper treatment can be administered without delay, dissemination
of the agent of toxin is prevented, appropriate decontamination is immediately undertaken, and exposure or spread of the agent is
curtailed.
Vital Probes, Inc is developing products to rapidly and accurately detect the presence of bacterial nucleic
acid and protein signatures of bacterial BWAs. VPI scientists have created a library of gene specific probes and protein-based
immuno assays for several bacterial pathogens and toxins. VPI, in conjunction with LaserPath Technologies
has also designed a technical platform that will work in conjunction with VPI designed detection assays.
This platform is hand-held, inexpensive and sensitive – detecting very low levels of signal
