Mobile Molecular Testing Laboratory (MMTL®)
Biowarfare, bioterrorism, and natural disasters represent a threat to plants, animals, and human populations. These agents can instill terror, disrupt food supplies, create economic losses, directly affect military and civilian populations, and cause morbidity and mortality.
In response to an attack with threat agents, most current protocols require collection of samples and further processing, analysis, and identification at off-site laboratories. These protocols hinder the rapid identification and mitigation of the suspect agent, as well as present safety issues surrounding the transport of the suspect agent.
To provide a truly rapid response and integrated solution in both the civilian and military biodefense markets, Vital Probes, Inc and Pierce Manufacturing, Inc., have produced the first Mobile Molecular Testing Laboratory (MMTL).
The MMTL consists of both Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) and Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratories which allow for the identification of suspect select agents on-site.
With the MMTL, onsite early detection of select agents will result in rapid evacuation of affected populations, containment of the agent, application of appropriate treatment modalities, and in general save potential economic losses and human lives. The MMTL will be the ideal solution in support of military force protectin, Homeland Defense, disease outbreaks, and preventive medicine.
